The Swan House
About:
Serious Women About New life
The Swan House is the first program of I Am Somebody Ministries, focused on helping single women of all ages. The Swan House currently has the capacity to hold up to 13 women. The Swan House provides residents with a home where they can receive services ranging from emotional support to employment opportunities. Many of the women who seek refuge at The Swan House have been battered and abused, experienced homelessness and suffered from addictions.

The Swan House is located in the heart of Cincinnati, Ohio, but the services provided by the organization are not limited to only those residing in Cincinnati. Residents have come from other counties throughout Northern Kentucky and Eastern Indiana. Local churches, shelters, hospitals and other philanthropic groups often recommend women who are in need to contact IASM.

The Swan House, along with a network of faith-based and other support organizations, provide residents with a home. They receive emotional, physical and spiritual support. The Swan House will connect the residents with resources, such as assistance with court proceedings and case management, when necessary. Residents pay $75 per week to help cover the cost of their stay. Women are allowed to stay in the Swan House for up to 2 years. The primary objective is to restore and empower women.

The Swan House has a 30 day self-evaluation and staff evaluation to see how individuals are progressing during their stay in the program. The evaluation covers many areas including any concerns about the program, their current life situation, and it allows the resident to identify if they will need to seek additional treatment.

Religious Program:
The principle program taught at I Am Somebody Ministries is faith and religious relations. The house uses daily prayer at the Bible to help motivate the residents. At I Am Somebody Ministries the idea of religious acceptance is quintessential in the healing and relearning process. In addition to daily devotion classes, the women are expected to attend Bible study at least once a week. The women are also required to attend a church service of their choice every Sunday. The Swan House does not discriminate against different religions. The foundation of the program is based on a religious and spiritual practice, but residents with religions other than Christianity have taken part and succeed in The Swan House as well.

Daily Living Programs:
The staff assist the residents with a multitude of everyday life responsibilities. Many of the women entering the house lack basic life skills, and the staff is committed to making sure they are capable of living on their own. The house helps by teaching the ladies how to prepare meals. The staff and the residents share the responsibility of making meals throughout the week. The staff also encourages regular personal hygiene habits. Unfortunately, many of the women who enter the house do not have proper hygiene techniques. The house provides hygiene products, and the staff assist the residents in maintaining proper self care. To prepare the residents for independent living, The Swan House assist he ladies in developing daily schedules. The staff help the women create daily routines and goals to establish structure and independence.

Outsourced Programs:
The Swan House provides outsources education and employment opportunities. The house finds individuals or businesses willing to assist the residents in furthering their education. Job listing agencies, such as City-Link, also help the women find employment. The house encourages the women to use the library as an additional resource. The Swan House also refers to mental health services when needed.
